 Oscar the Wild
The case for Wilde's
involvement with Teleny is entirely due to the account of
one Charles Hirsch, the owner of the London bookshop Librairie
Parisienne. Hirsch earned Wilde's confidence by providing him
with a discreet source of Gay pornography. This made him ideal as
a go between for the various writers of Teleny. Wilde set
up the arrangement, provided the manuscript and ultimately claimed
it when finished. Teleny was released anonymously a year
later in 1893 by Wilde's own publisher Leonard Smithers. Even if
Wilde did not write a word of Teleny his influence is obvious.
